Chris Madalon remembers the day clearly.
Shea Dolce had recently moved with her family to Darien, Conn., from Chicago, and -- as a sixth-grader -- started kicking the tires on a sport she’d never played.
Though she was new to lacrosse, her athleticism was evident. Soon after, she was pointed toward Madalon, a son of Darien who’d gone on to star at goalie at the University of North Carolina and had returned to the area to teach and coach.
“I remember the first session with her,” said Madalon. “I was working with her individually at Darien High School. We kept it basic -- I’m not even sure she had a goalie stick."
