It was the second game of Craig Yannone’s college lacrosse career. St. Anselm traveled to Florida Tech. He remembers it being hot and he was the only faceoff athlete.
As if his work wasn’t already cut out for him, the two teams combined for 33 goals, and the game went into overtime, meaning Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) took a total of 37 draws.
In what he and head coach Michael Sciamanna both said was their favorite on-field moment of Yannone’s career, the then-freshman won 23 faceoffs, picked up eight groundballs, and helped the Hawks win possession to score two goals in the final 90 seconds of regulation before ultimately winning in the extra period.
However, that was a long time ago.
