Wednesday was supposed to be a celebrated day for women’s lacrosse in this region, with a pair of games (UMass at Boston College and Central Conn. State at UConn) marking the end of a long, 11-month, COVID-induced interruption of competition.
But UMass had to suspend athletics for at least two weeks starting on Feb. 7 due to a surge of COVID cases, and CCSU is unable to play its game due to travel restrictions.
There are sure to be more bumps in the scheduling road as the Division 1 teams from the region prepare to open a spring unlike any other. The exception is the Ivy League, which has not announced plans for a season and has delayed the start of any spring practice until at least March 1. Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale teams are all facing an uncertain spring.
