How Christine Fiore grew into a star and leader at Navy

Christine Fiore struggled in her freshman year of college.

It was an adjustment living on her own and away from her parents, something she said she had never done for more than a week at a time previously.

It was also an adjustment to go from being a star player on the Darien (Conn.) High School girls lacrosse team – a captain, All-County selection and All-State selection as a senior – to a player who wasn’t playing a lot of minutes for the Navy women’s lacrosse team.

Sometimes, Fiore thought about quitting both lacrosse and the military altogether; she felt like she wasn’t good enough.
