It’s hard not to notice what’s happening in Hopedale, Mass. You’ve got a small high school — the smallest in the Mid-Mass League — and a pair of lacrosse programs that only began at the varsity level in 2014.
And yet, here they are, winning in 2018 at a level that is now impossible to ignore.
The boys team, headed up by Eric Moxim, began 2018 by winning its first seven games. The most noteworthy of those was a 7-6 squeaker over Nipmuc Regional on April 12.
"(Our players) understood that win meant a lot," Moxim said. "It let our players know they were for real. I can only tell them so much. Now they know they can compete against a team of that caliber."
Moxim started the Hopedale program as a club team in 2012. In 2013, it competed at the JV level and then made the transition to an official varsity program after that.
