Here’s how you can be remarkable for recruiters

Bobby Knight, who is one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time, once was asked by an ESPN reporter whom he believed was the greatest college basketball coach of all time. Coach Knight did not name the head coach for the perennial powerhouses of UCLA, Duke, North Carolina or Kentucky; instead, he went on to speak of an unnamed Division 3 basketball coach in the heart of Texas. He referred to him as a basketball savant — one of the greatest basketball minds that most never will know.

I am offering you this short story to emphasize the importance of putting your athletic career into perspective. There are a tremendous amount of misconceptions surrounding collegiate sports that intertwine several factors often overlooked by athletes, high school coaches and parents alike.

As we catapult into another summer season with a short memory of the days behind us, I’d like to help you understand what will make you remarkable to a college coach and how it is ultimately relative to your physical performance.
