Dan O’Connell created a strong résumé at Winchester (Mass.) High School, playing varsity for three years, serving as captain for two and setting the school record for career assists. He was also a two-time Middlesex League All-Star.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t until a chance meeting with an assistant coach from Holy Cross after he’d already enrolled at the University of South Carolina that a Division 1 program showed interest in O’Connell.
Excited for an opportunity he never thought he’d have, O’Connell even took up a new position. Not only was he one of the best faceoff specialists in the nation this spring (198-of-299, 66 percent), but the junior is also having the time of his life.
We caught up with O'Connell for the Hangin' Out With section of our May 2019 magazine. The full interview can be found below.
