If this was a typical high school football season, Carter Rice would be working out at cornerback, loving the one-on-one battles with wide receivers that his athleticism usually allowed him to win.
But this is anything but a typical football season. At Boston College High School and other schools around Massachusetts, football has been wedged into the MIAA’s “Fall II” wedge season after COVID concerns did not allow play in the fall.
Because Fall II extends into late April, and because lacrosse has become Rice’s main focus, he opted to stay off the gridiron.
But that wasn’t always the case.
