The first week of prep school lacrosse in the region saw some crackling games, and New England Lacrosse Journal was fortunate to be at three of them. Phillips Exeter defeated Governor's, 9-5, in the midweek, and then beat Milton Academy, 6-3, in a defensive battle at historic Harvard Stadium over the weekend. Belmont Hill bounced back from a loss to NE West power Deerfield to edge the Hill School (Pa.), 9-8. Photos by David Lavallee and Dave Arnold.

GALLERY: St. John’s Prep beats BC High for D-1 title

For the first time since 2010, the boys lacrosse team at St. John's Prep is a state champion. The Eagles defeated Catholic Conference rival BC High, 11-7, in the MIAA Division 1 championship, a game that was spread out over two days after a weather delay. The third week of the Massachusetts high school lacrosse season was kick-started by a meeting between Division 1 title hopefuls St. John's Prep and BC High. The second weekend of the Independent School League season featured a series between heavyweights Belmont Hill and St. Sebastian's, teams that have combined to win or share seven of the last eight ISL titles.
