From the podcast: A coaches roundtable at Piatelli Showcase

Kyle Devitte: How how many events have you been to this summer? Do you know the number? 

RPI assistant coach Chris Piatelli: That is a great question. I have probably been to at least 20 events. I mean, there were a couple of weeks where I was living out of a suitcase for literally 12 to 14 days. That happened at least twice before Fourth of July. Then right after Fourth of July, my wife was not too happy. But, you know, you have got to grind it out. I saw a lot of good lacrosse, a lot of good prospects. I was able to coach a lot of good kids, too. So it’s been a lot of fun, but it’s been a grind for sure. 

KD: Let’s talk about Purchase (College in New York). What kind of a school is it? I know you’ve just been there a short time after going over from Monmouth, which I actually broke on Twitter, ironically enough. 

SUNY-Purchase head coach Dan Lawrence: Yes, I came over to Purchase College in February. I’ve got a great group of guys on the team, worked really hard, were able to pull off a 5-9 season in our first season together. But it’s a great school. One of my soapboxes that I always talk about is the cost of college tuition right now. That there’s a great opportunity for people to come. Get good value for your dollar. You know, you’re looking at roughly $25,000 total cost of attendance for in-state and about $34,000 for out-of-state students. So it’s a great value and also a fantastic school to go to. We have great art programs, great Bachelors of Fine Arts program. We also have a really cool screenwriting program, journalism, economics. So we really do span the gamut, and just being about 30 minutes outside of New York City in picturesque Purchase, New York, and a 300-acre campus.

KD: You’ve watched a couple of the ’24’s. What can you say about the class as a whole group – the talent level of the ’24s in New England?

Bentley head coach Jim Murphy: There’s a lot of talent. I think most of them were probably a little leery back when the whole COVID thing was going on; they weren’t getting enough opportunities. Then the transfer portal came along. But for them, it didn’t affect them as much as maybe some of the ’23s and ’22s. So they should be on par to be prepared for everything they need to do to get interest in schools being in contact. But talent-wise — there is a lot of it in New England. You don’t have to recruit far and wide, whether it’s all New England club teams or teams that come to this region, it’s really been considerable and helping us in the recruiting process.
