When it comes to sports, past records can be misleading. For example, there’s definitely something brewing in Springfield, Mass., with the men’s lacrosse program at American International College this spring. You just need to look beneath the surface to see the reasons why.
The program at AIC originated in 1992. That inaugural season, the team finished 2-8. The team has never won more than four games in a season, a stretch of futility approaching a fourth decade.
AIC’s last win within the Northeast-10 was in 2014. Last season, the squad finished 0-9. And, yet, within the program itself, you’ll find an irrefutable abundance of hope.
“We’re going in trying to win every game,” AIC coach Tim Robbins said. “If we could win a couple conference games, we’ll be headed in the right direction. There are games against some of those top conference teams where we have to play perfect and then, hopefully, that other team doesn’t.”
