NEWPORT, R.I. – The ML8 High School Summer National Championship at St. George’s School recently was a combination of a recruiting event and a last hurrah for many of the region’s prep school teams.
If you’ve never been to the campus of St. George’s, you’re missing out on one of the most majestic settings for an athletic event. The middle of the campus has two turf fields split in twain with a walkway to a set of extra fields on the backside of the school’s boundary.
Both fields are surrounded by buildings that look like they were built in the 1700s -- huge, gothic structures that loom over the fields.
One building in particular looks like a matte painting, particularly when viewed through the early fog that drifts in from the ocean.
