EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- With a trip to the Division 1 championship game on the line, John Piatelli (Wrentham, Mass.) stepped up and had one of his biggest games of the season.
Leading the team in goals on the day with five, the last of which tied Mike French for the most ever in a single season at Cornell, Piatelli was involved in the settled offense, on the ride and in transition, illustrating the versatility that’s made him one of the most productive players in the nation this year.
Piatelli started the scoring for Cornell when he got underneath his man on a dodge from up top and dove across the front of the goal to score, avoiding the goal-mouth in the process, to tie the game at one.
CJ Kirst and Michael Long added a goal to make 3-1 at the end of the first quarter. Cornell and Rutgers battled throughout the second quarter, when the first major turning point in the game came.
