With the start of the new collegiate lacrosse season still months away, fall ball presents an opportunity for coaches to survey their team and get the lay of the land.
But UMass head coach Greg Cannella, the coach with the fourth-most years of head coaching experience in Division 1 lacrosse, knows that fall ball is more about player evaluation than knowing what kind of team he has.
"I think this time of year, everyone's bought in," Cannella said. "You're still undefeated. Six or seven games into the season, where is everybody? Are guys willing to fill roles for the betterment of the team and push the team forward?
"What's the overall attitude? What's the discipline like? How do they react to adversity? We'll find out all that stuff during the season."
