Noelle Lambert’s (Londonderry, N.H.) story has been well-documented. She arrived at UMass Lowell as a freshman in 2016. That season, she tied for the team lead with 15 goals and was second with six assists, and was selected to the America East All-Rookie Team.
She was a promising building block for a program that just completed its second Division 1 season.
Tragedy struck that summer, however, when she and her teammate and roommate, Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.), were involved in a moped accident on Martha’s Vineyard, which forced Lambert to be airlifted to a Boston hospital and have her left leg amputated.
Lambert didn’t let something like losing a leg stop her, however; she trained and was cleared by the NCAA in 2018 to return to the field with a prosthetic blade in place of her leg. Her return went viral as she scored in her first game back.
