After sneaking by Glastonbury, 6-5, in the semifinals, Ridgefield was faced with everyone’s nemesis, Darien, and that team’s 76-game winning streak in the Class L championship.
Not only had no one beaten Darien in years, but it also had been seven seasons and 10 head-to-head matchups since the Tigers had beaten the Blue Wave.
Despite all the history stacked against it, Ridgefield was able to calmly pull off the upset and make a little history of its own with a 9-8 win for the program’s first state title since 2011.
