Last year was my first encounter with the Midnight Riders box lacrosse club. They were holding tryouts for their elite teams just a few minutes away from where I live.
Their director, Scott Singer, is also one of the directors of 4 Leaf lacrosse, and the head coach of St. Thomas Aquinas, a Division 2 high school in New Hampshire. For context, I’m the JV head and varsity assistant coach at Division 3 Hopkinton (N.H. ). As a result, Singer and I are contemporaries as well as colleagues in the coaching scene.
So, when he asked me if I wanted to help coach up the younger players at Midnight Rider tryouts this weekend, I jumped at the chance -- both as a coach and as a writer.
What could be better?
