‘Captain Deerfield’ Hanna Deringer triumphs over adversity

Hanna Deringer hasn’t played a lacrosse game for Deerfield Academy since last April, but it’s impossible not to recognize the mark she’s left at the school.

This spring, high school and prep school athletes across the region had to deal with the unpleasant reality of losing a sports season. For many seniors, it was their final sports season.

It wasn’t the loss that was unprecedented; it was the scale, a coronavirus razor scraping across six states and leaving not a single athlete or team unscathed.
