PHILADELPHIA – The NESCAC and Division 3 national championships have, as of late, gone hand in hand. The conference, thanks to Wesleyan and Tufts, had already taken home four such titles this decade.
Amherst's bid to make it five was halted on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field, as Cabrini secured a 16-12 victory.
Both team's were first-time national finalists, though the Cavaliers (21-2) were certainly boosted by playing before a home-friendly crowd. Cabrini, from nearby Radnor, Pa., had four sections deep of fans and won the school's first-ever national championship in any varsity sport.
