Brown vs. BU latest product of change-on-the-fly spring

The salvation of a season sounds hyperbolic. But in a spring with nothing but intrasquad competition -- and more than a year since another team set foot on campus -- it’s an appropriate expression for some.

After the Ivy League scrapped its spring season, the Brown men had hoped to open a freelance campaign a few weeks ago against Holy Cross, but a breakdown in COVID protocols not only canceled the game, it also ended the Crusaders’ season.

Brown coach Mike Daly was left scrambling to find an opponent -- any opponent -- to fill the void. However, due to the stringent ruleset for the many conferences in and around the available schools within a 100-mile radius, the market was scarce.
