With the excitement of Christmas morning, the NCAA Division 1 men’s lacrosse season opened on
Feb. 1. Unfortunately, not everyone joined the party, and not just in the opening weekend but in
the second weekend as well.
It’s not until the third weekend of the 2020 season that the Ivy League schools will make their returns to
the field, and the players are chomping at the bit.
“It’s a focus on academics first and keeping things in perspective,” Brown head coach Mike Daly said.
“The rest of the Division 1 schedule is a little out of perspective in terms of playing games in January. It’s
kind of crazy.”
Ivy League schools are known for their lofty academic status. The academic expectations are reflected in
some of the conference’s rules. The Ivy League prohibits academic scholarships and does not allow for
medical redshirts.
