QUINCY, Mass. – During the Boston Cannons' debut at their new Quincy Veterans Memorial Stadium home Saturday, the buzz was never more frenzied than when the city’s favorite son took the field.
A sellout crowd of more than 5,000 fans were there to root on a 13-12 victory over the New York Lizards, but dozens were in attendance to watch Martin Bowes (Quincy, Mass.) make a triumphant return to the hometown turf. Screams of “Mahhty!” filled the bleachers anytime the ball found his stick.
“The ball?” Bowes said of the reception. “It was anytime my toes touched the field.”
