Born to run: Abby Charron turned heads swiftly at Canton

Nobody likes running Herbies.

There’s a lot to like if you’re a girls lacrosse player at Canton (Conn.) High School. There’s chemistry and camaraderie, and enough strong play on the field to produce three straight trips to the Class S semifinals.

Coach Sean Cole is a source of support for players, but he also comes from a hockey background, coaching the team at nearby Xavier High School in the winter. From that comes the “Herbies,” a draining conditioning drill named for the late Herb Brooks, the “Miracle on Ice” coach.
