If something you want is attainable to you, why wait to collect it?
That was Billerica Memorial (Mass.) High School junior Abby White’s thought process when she woke up just after midnight on Sept. 1 to check her messages.
One from Merrimack College was waiting for her. She made arrangements to speak to head coach Julie Duffy later in the day; after they spoke, she made a verbal commitment.
“It was very fast,” she said this week.
The commitment may have happened on the first day of Division 1 contact, but White can trace her relationship with Duffy back years, when the Merrimack coach was helping out at some Revolution club practices and with the town program.
