It’s hard to imagine a team coming off a championship season, its third in four years, coming into the new campaign facing adversity, as underdogs.
That was exactly what stood in front of the girls from St. Mark’s School, though.
One season after earning a share of the Independent School League championship along with Middlesex, St. Mark’s entered the season with plenty of uncertainty. It said goodbye to a large graduating class. It had a small roster with few substitutess and some inexperience, particularly on defense.
The head coach, Channing Warner, gave birth to her second child in January, and on May 1, learned she had a thin melanoma on her ankle.
