At Lasell University, men’s lacrosse intends to build a legacy of excellence

Lasell has been to the conference semifinals in three straight seasons under coach Dieter Treusdell.

Coach Dieter Treusdell and his Lasell University men’s lacrosse team have firmly established themselves as a formidable force in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference during his three seasons at the helm.

The Lasers, with an impressive 25-5 record in the GNAC and 34-21 mark overall, are ready to take the next step toward championship glory.

Treusdell has consistently led the team to at least the conference semifinals in each of his three seasons. Both he and the team believe they are on the cusp of achieving even greater success.

“Each year has been a step in the right direction,” Treusdell said. “Competitively, I feel like we’ve given ourselves a chance every year to win our conference or compete at the top of our conference, which is always our goal. I feel like we have the right combination in terms of leadership, character, and skill, top to bottom, that we need to continue to win.”

One of the standout players this past season was Mangus Leonard, who won GNAC Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive year. Alongside Leonard, Francis Pino also earned first-team all-conference accolades. In total, six Lasell players received all-conference recognition. While seniors have moved on due to graduation, Treusdell remains committed to building a robust pipeline of talent into the Lasell program.

Treusdell evaluates his team’s skill set annually and tailors his game plan accordingly.

“The identity of the team changes every year. Each year a completely new group is trying to mesh, and that’s the challenge that is really special. It’s just building everything up from scratch,” he said. “We take pride in being a balanced team at all three levels of the field, but each year we have to find out what our strengths are and fit our systems to our guys.”

A core principle for Treusdell and the Lasers is fostering a positive team culture. He emphasizes the importance of a “family atmosphere” where success off the field translates to success on it. This mindset, Treusdell believes, benefits players not only during their collegiate careers but also in their lives beyond Lasell.

“We began emphasizing having a close team — spending time with your teammates after wins, after losses, doing team-building activities. It’s really just embracing closeness, trust, chemistry because those things make us resilient as a group,” he explained.

Commitment to fitness is also central to Lasell Lacrosse.

“I want the guys that go through the program to have fitness be a priority in their lifestyle moving forward,” Treusdell said. “I think it leads to a healthier, more productive individual. It rolls into everything else that you’re doing in your life. I’m a big believer in that.”

With Treusdell’s leadership and the team’s dedication, Lasell University men’s lacrosse is poised to be a dominant force in the GNAC for years to come. The Lasers are not just ready to compete — they are ready to conquer.
