The first weekend of June, New England finally got to experience what professional lacrosse is supposed to be all about.
It didn’t happen at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro — where the Premier Lacrosse League made its much-ballyhooed debut — but rather a 20-mile drive away, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy, Mass., where the Boston Cannons started their 19th season by finally coming of age.
That’s not a knock on the PLL, where fans witnessed some spectacular play and the potential for the future is inspiring, nor is it a dig at the Cannons’ past.
It’s simply that the team’s debut at their new home was a hometown and regional spectacle, an atmosphere that heretofore has been missing throughout Cannons history.
