In the offseason, there was a sizable shift in teams across a number of conferences. Old conferences like the NEC and the SoCon have given way to the Atlantic 10 and the ASUN.
The ripples of those changes are starting to filter through into the region. There has been a shift in one of Division 1's oldest conferences. America East lost Stony Brook to the Colonial Athletic Association, the same league that lost UMass to the A-10, which will now sponsor men’s lacrosse.
Half of the teams in the America East are now based in New England. Bryant and Merrimack joined in the offseason after the dissolution of the NEC.
