Last week, US Lacrosse announced the names of the 50 women who are candidates to make the Women’s National Team that will compete in next summer’s World Championship at Towson (Md.) University.
Of those 50 players, a dozen have strong ties to New England. Tryouts for the National Team will be held at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., from Dec. 4-6, under the eye of North Carolina coach Jenny Levy and her staff.
The United States has won the last three World Championships (2009, 2013 and 2017) and has won a record eight World Cups since the championship was first contested nearly 40 years ago, in Nottingham, England, in 1982.
The dozen candidates from our region include six current college players plus four players who have transitioned to college coaching. Here is a closer look at all of New England’s hopefuls.
