As the seasons change, so does a lacrosse player’s focus. Summer camps, tournaments and strength-and-conditioning sessions give way to fall weekend tournaments or a fall collegiate season and a school schedule.
Player nutrition also changes as foods come in and out of season. I already miss the heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil from our garden, but I absolutely love the pumpkin protein pancakes and chili that I’ve been making recently (see recipe). Access also changes from free range of the kitchen at home to navigating a dining hall or school cafeteria. Some players tell me that they are able to eat in class or that their school provides a mid-morning snack period, while others say that they aren’t even allowed to carry a water bottle.
As lacrosse players settle into their fall schedules, below are some tips to keep them fueled, hydrated and on top of their game academically and athletically.
