Taking off a Friday afternoon in February, I had two great sports choices on television: the Winter Olympic Games or an early-season lacrosse game between top-five college teams from Duke and Denver.
The obvious pick would be the Olympics, which come around every four years, but as riveting as I can find curling and women’s team cross-country skiing — and I’m a big fan every fourth year — it was the lacrosse that held my attention.
It also was a reminder of why I don’t ever want to see lacrosse contested at the Olympic Games.
I know I’m in the minority on this one, and I haven’t always felt this way; decades ago, I was right there with the dreamers wondering why my favorite sport didn’t have a place in "the biggest event in sports."
