When Harvard takes the field against UMass in the 2020 season opener on Feb. 22, it will be the first time the program does so under new head coach Gerry Byrne.

Byrne was hired as the Harvard head coach on July 1, 2019, becoming the 18th head coach in program history.

“I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Gerry Byrne as our new head coach of men’s lacrosse,” Harvard athletic director Bob Scalise said in the team’s press release announcing the hiring. “Gerry is an outstanding coach and educator who will bring a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and experience to Cambridge. We look forward to welcoming him and his family to Harvard.”

Byrne previously served as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for Notre Dame over 16 seasons.
