The decision announced by the NCAA’s Division 1 Coordinating Committee on Wednesday night further shrank the summer lacrosse recruiting season, or at the very least pushed it back.

By extending the ongoing dead period, which was established after the winter championships and spring sport seasons were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA mandated that in-person Division 1 recruiting in any sport cannot happen through July 31.

“The extension maintains consistent recruiting rules for all sports and allows coaches to focus on the student-athletes who may be returning to campus,” said council chair M. Grace Calhoun, athletics director at Pennsylvania. “The committee is committed to reviewing the dead period again in late June or early July.”
