Middlebury falls short of second national title in three years

For Emma McDonagh (Reading, Mass.), winning a national championship as a freshman at Middlebury College was both a blessing and a curse.

Having a hand in that title, the sixth in program history and first in a dozen years, produced not just euphoria but also lifelong bonds and memories.

The memories can cut both ways.

"Being a part of that team freshman year was so special," said McDonagh, the former Reading Memorial High School star, "but it’s also the kind of thing that looms over everything, wanting to get back and do it every year."
