Attackmen tend to generate all the buzz, midfielders are the breadwinners, faceoff specialists can control a game and defensemen can suffocate an opponent's offense.

All are vital pieces, but perhaps none more so than a team's goalie. The position is also often under-appreciated, since goalies seldom get headlines or win year-end awards.

As those tensions play out, New England Lacrosse Journal has highlighted five of the region's top five goalies to watch for in Division 3. There's a heavy NESCAC presence, though several others are game-changers beyond what's arguably the nation's top conference.

We'll continue to break down the D3 landscape as the season nears, so stay tuned for further stories.
