SUDBURY, Mass. – After a year off, I returned to one of the most unique tournaments in the region — the New England Lacrosse Showcase.
NELS is a final chance for high school teams to unite after their season and compete without their graduated seniors. It is one of the few events to eschew club teams, welcoming schools from New England (sans their coaches to comply with MIAA rules) and beyond to compete against one another. While the regional players compete without their coaches, teams from as far as Washington state and top-rated teams from New Jersey play with their full complement, testing themselves against the best teams from New England.
Already this week, I've looked at the performance of Darien, Conn., St. John's Prep and Hingham, Mass., at NELS. Today we examine Marshfield, Mass.
Marshfield reached the Division 2 finals this spring but fell in triple overtime to Longmeadow. During their run, they downed Div. 2 favorite Duxbury in the semis and emerged as a new power in the second division of the MIAA. After NELS, it's easy to see how they did that because this group is talented even without their seniors from the spring.
The players that stood out are listed with their current class status. So, players who just completed their junior seasons are listed as seniors. College commitments are included where applicable.
