Cannons lose Quinzani, add McGlone

by PR Wire Report/

The Boston Cannons had a major roster shake-up on Wednesday with the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Expansion Draft held.

The draft allowed the league’s two new expansion franchises – Charlotte Hounds and Ohio Machine – to fill out their rosters.

In addition to the expansion teams, other MLL franchises had picks acquired through trades.

Overall, the Cannons lost Max Quinzani (Charlotte, fourth pick), Greg Downing (Denver, from Charlotte sixth pick), Kip Turner (Chesapeake, from Ohio, 13th pick), Matt Casey (Ohio, 21st pick) and Josh Amidon (Charlotte, 28th pick).

The Cannons added midfielder Bill McGlone with the 11th pick.

Boston was able to pull back Kyle Sweeney and Mike Stone during the draft and JJ Morrissey, Jack Reid, John Ortolani and Shamel Bratton at the conclusion of the draft.

"Obviously, we're disappointed to lose members of our championship team,” Cannons head coach Steve Duffy said on the team’s Facebook page. “But we're happy with the guys we were able to bring back and that we were able to add All-Star midfielder Bill McGlone, who is excited to play for us in Boston."
