A pair of Boston Cannons players recently earned community awards.
At the Boston Sports Fan Choice Awards, Kevin Buchanan was given a Hometown Hero award for his work in the Boston community and beyond.
The award was presented by Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe, who talked about Buchanan's volunteer activities, including work at the Greater Boston Food Bank with fellow Cannons earlier this year; teaching free clinics to the boys and girls of MetroLacrosse; participating in an anti-bullying advertising campaign with the Boston Sports Museum; and visiting local high schools to talk about leadership and achieving goals. He was also a volunteer assistant coach at BC High School and with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes National Boys Lacrosse team.
Also, Paul Rabil was honored at The Lab School of Washington Awards Gala, alongside such notable figures as Erin Brockovich, Gavin Newsom, the Lieutenant Governor of California, and Dr. Michael B. Oren, Ambassador of Israel to the U.S., all of whom overcame learning disabilities to become outstanding achievers. According the the school's website, "Each has mastered their learning disabilities in order to achieve success in their chosen career – and each serves as an inspiring role model to Lab School students."
The Lab School is regarded as a leader in innovative and effective methods for teaching bright, motivated students with learning disabilities and ADHD. The first school of its type in the nation, Lab is known worldwide for transforming lives and guiding students on the path toward success.
