Brown men add two assistant coaches
by PR Wire Report/
Former Johns Hopkins All-American Steven Boyle and former Centenary College head coach Michael Brand have been named assistant men's lacrosse coaches at Brown.
"Steven's always played lacrosse at the highest of echelons, and he has learned from great coaches both at the high school and college level," said Brown head coach Lars Tiffany. "His approach to coaching is shaped by his former coaches (Dave Pietramala and Bobby Benson) and his own exceptional and creative style of play. Brown lacrosse is very fortunate to have another man with a national championship ring on our coaching staff.
A native of Derry, N.H., Boyle's focus at Brown will be working with the offensive schemes and the development of the attackmen and offensive midfielders.
Boyle is 2010 graduate of Johns Hopkins with a BA in Political Science, and a three-time All-American for the Blue Jays. He played for Hopkins 2007 NCAA championship team, and earned the Bob Scott Award for Outstanding Freshman Performance.
Brand was the head lacrosse coach at Centenary College, as well as Caddo Magnet High School both in Shreveport, La. In his three seasons at Centenary, he took the Gents from a 1-6 inaugural season in 2009, a 5-5 record in 2010, and an 8-4 record in 2011. In 2010 he was awarded the Lone Star Alliance Conference Coach of the Year.
"Michael joined our program in September and the impact has been felt immediately," said Tiffany. "Not the typical volunteer assistant, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge after serving as a head coach for Centenary. He is a very keen and insightful evaluator of our men during the training sessions. Michael's rapport with the team is exceptional and he has played no small role in bonding the team together even tighter. He is making our program more visible as well with his marketing experience and attentiveness to our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Michael's healthy and endless sense of humor provides both the coaching staff and the men comic relief and levity despite the intensity of our mission."
