The Boston Blazers closed their 2011 regular season on a high note Saturday night, defeating the Buffalo Bandits, 16-9 at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Boston victory kept Buffalo from clinching the top seed in the upcoming National Lacrosse League’s East Division playoffs, but Buffalo landed the No. 1 spot on Saturday when Toronto was defeated by Edmonton.

As a result, Boston (8-8) will face Buffalo (10-5) in the opening round of the playoffs on the weekend of April 29. Dates and times for the playoff matchups have not yet been announced.

On Saturday, Boston goaltender Anthony Cosmo made 38 saves to record the victory.

Boston’s Kevin Buchanan (five goals, four assists) and Dan Dawson (two goals, six assists) paced the Blazers, with Jamie Rooney (three goals, two assists) and Josh Sanderson (two goals, two assists) also turning in strong performances.

For Buffalo, John Tavares had two goals and two assists, Brenden Thenhaus had two goals and an assist and Roger Vyse tallied three goals.

In other playoff matchups, Toronto will face Rochester in the other East semifinal, while Calgary will face Colorado and Minnesota will meet Washington in the West.
