Top Gun teams enjoy summer success
by Staff Report/
Top Gun Lacrosse, which fields select lacrosse clubs based out of eastern Massachusetts, posted an outstanding summer in 2010, with several of its teams and players earning honors at some of the most prestigious events on the summer recruiting/tournament circuit.
Top Gun’s Rising Clams won the championship in the Sophomore A division at the Tri-State Mid-Summer Classic, defeating Team Smithtown from New York to capture the trophy.
The Top Gun Fighting Clams, meanwhile, were runners-up at the UMBC Shootout held at Maryland’s legendary Calvert Hall School. The annual event is described by many as the most competitive team camp in the country.
Over the course of the summer, a number of Clams team members earned All-Star honors.
At the King of the Hill tournament in June, Will Walker (Philips Andover, Scituate, Mass.), Matt Thistle (Bishop Guertin, Chelmsford, Mass.), Will Ballantyne (Hopkinton, Mass.), Joe Ricciuti (Norwell, Mass.) and Conor Fraylick (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made the all-tournament team.
During the New England Team Showcase in Devens, Mass., in early July, it was Joey Pasquale (Weston, Mass.), Ray Horgan (Deerfield Academy, Marblehead, Mass.), Charlie Suominen (Weston, Mass.), Ben Lesser (Concord/Carlisle, Mass.), Derek Youngman (Thayer Academy, Cohasset, Mass.), Pete Willauer (Duxbury, Mass.), Chase Williams (Weston, Mass.), and Elliott Burr (Hamilton-Wenham, Mass.) who received recognition as tournament All-Stars.
And during the Hotbeds Lacrosse Tournament at the University of Delaware in late July, it was Tommy Rehnert (Rivers School, Weston, Mass.) and Johnny McNamara (Brewster Academy, Mansfield, Mass.) who earned an All-Star berth while playing for the Clams.
