U.S. men will play for world title

Boston Cannons midfielder Paul Rabil scored four goals as Team USA advanced to the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships title game with a 20-5 win over Japan on Thursday.

Boston Cannons midfielder Paul Rabil scored a game-high four goals to lead the U.S. men’s lacrosse team to a 20-5 semifinal victory over Japan in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships on Thursday in Manchester, England.

The U.S. will now meet Canada for the world championship for the fourth straight time and seventh time in the last 33 years.

Canada, which defeated Team USA to win the previous World Championships, advanced to the title game with a 15-6 win over Australia on Thursday.

Saturday’s championship game will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 11 a.m. Eastern time.

Rabil added an assist to lead Team USA, while Kyle Dixon and Drew Westervelt added three goals apiece. The U.S. had 12 different goal scorers in the win, which was its second over Japan in three days.

Team USA took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back as it moved ahead 14-1 and led by 17 on a goal by Cannons defenseman Kyle Sweeney.
