by PR Wire Report/
The Boston Cannons’ three-game winning streak came to an end with a 15-13 loss at the Toronto Nationals on Thursday night.
Toronto’s Jordan Hall was named Bud Light MVP for the game after scoring two goals with an assist for the Nationals (3-5).
Boston is now 5-3.
The game started with the defenses unable to stop the opposing offenses. The Cannons started the game with the first two offensive possessions and took an early 2-0 lead.
Rookie Steven Boyle, who was activated earlier in the week, scored his first professional goal to open the game’s scoring.
The Nationals had the next three possessions and kept the offensive streak going, taking a 3-2 lead halfway through the quarter.
Matt Poskay scored on the Cannons’ first man advantage to tie the score at 3-3.
The Nationals’ Mark Steenhuis ended the first quarter scoring, notching a goal with 56 seconds to go to give Toronto a 4-3 lead after one quarter of play.
Toronto’s Geoff Snider took the second quarter opening face-off down the field and scored seven seconds into the quarter.
After another Nationals goal, Boston’s Paul Rabil got on the score sheet, blasting a shot past the Nationals goalie to cut the Toronto lead to 6-4.
The teams traded the next three goals until the Cannons rattled off four points in a row with a Brad Ross 2-pointer, Steven Boyle’s second goal of the night and a Justin Smith diving goal giving the Cannons a 9-8 lead.
Toronto scored to end a high-scoring first half as the teams went into intermission tied at 9-9.
Boston’s hero a week ago, Jordan Burke, replaced Kip Turner in goal to start the second half and continued his hot play with some early saves.
The Cannons had an early man advantage and Poskay made Torontopay as he collected a rebound and scored his second goal of the night.
After a Cannons unsportsmanlike penalty, the Nationals scored back-to-back goals to take an 11-10 lead.
Rabil scored a 2-pointer with 8 seconds to go to give the Cannons a 13-12 lead after three quarters.
The Nationals opened the fourth quarter scoring off a Cannons turnover to tie the score at 13-13. Neither team could find the back of the net over the next 10-plus minutes.
Burke made several strong saves to keep the score tied until Jordan Hall scored with 3:58 remaining to give the Nationals a 14-13 lead.
Billings put Toronto up by two with just over 3 minutes to go in the game. The Cannons offense could not get another shot on goal as they were held scoreless in the fourth as they saw their winning streak halted.
