HS notebook: New Hampshire tops Vermont

by Roger Brown/

There was plenty of scoring in this year’s Lions Twin State all-star high school lacrosse games, and most of it was done by New Hampshire.

New Hampshire held a healthy lead over Vermont at halftime of each game Saturday. The New Hampshire girls posted a 22-5 victory, and the New Hampshire boys prevailed 18-7.

Both games were played in Hanover, N.H.

The New Hampshire girls scored 15 of their 22 goals in the first half, and had a 12-goal lead at the break. Vermont held a 3-2 lead, but New Hampshire scored the final 13 goals of the half.

Bow’s Samantha Gallerani collected a game-high five goals to lead the New Hampshire offense. New Hampshire received four goals from Josie Bezeredy (Londonderry), and three from both Kati Sousa (Hollis-Brookline) and Julia Wright (Bishop Guertin).

Marisa Kiefaber (Rutland) scored two goals for Vermont.

New Hampshire goaltender Lorin Field (Hollis-Brookline) made nine saves in the game. Vermont received 11 saves from Paige Emond (Burr and Burton).

Boys: New Hampshire 18, Vermont 7

Cody Marquis (Londonderry) scored each of his four goals in the first half, when the New Hampshire boys built a 12-2 advantage. Vermont was never closer than nine goals the rest of the way.

Marquis, who will play Division I lacrosse for Hofstra University next year, scored twice in a 57-second span to give New Hampshire a 9-1 lead early in the second quarter. New Hampshire scored the game’s first six goals.

Nick Hart (Champlain Valley) scored two goals to lead Vermont. New Hampshire goalie Donny Denman (Exeter) stopped three shots in the first half. Zach Morgan (Derryfield) made two saves in the second half.

Vermont’s Kaleb Nichols (BFA-St. Albans) made four saves in the first half. Sam Mattson (Essex) turned away nine shots in the second half.

Bryan Bourque (Goffstown) collected three goals and five assists for New Hampshire. Ben Calegari (Derryfield), Alex Davies (Bow) and Will Vogt (Exeter) each added two goals for the Granite State.
