Cannons take Quinzani in MLL draft

Duke's Max Quinzani was the Boston Cannons' top pick in Sunday's MLL draft.
The Boston Cannons selected Duxbury, Mass., native Max Quinzani with the third overall pick in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse draft on Sunday.
Quinzani recently led Duke University to the 2010 NCAA Division 1 men’s national championship, scoring the game-winning goal with 12 seconds left in a semifinal contest against Virginia to help the Blue Devils advance.
Quinzani tallied a career best 64 goals his senior season to lead all Duke goal scorers. A two-time All-America choice, he was named to the All-ACC Team each of the last three seasons.
Quinzani currently ranks second in Duke and NCAA lacrosse history in goals with 195 tallies. For his college career, Quinzani played in 76 games and helped Duke to a 63-13 overall record.
He led Duxbury High to three straight state championships and set the national high school scoring record.
In the second round, the Cannons selected Johns Hopkins attackman Steven Boyle (Derry, N.H.).
An All-America honorable mention pick in 2010, Boyle led Johns Hopkins in goals (32), assists (23) and points (55) this season. He had career totals of 95 goals and 69 assists.
In the third round, Boston chose University of Massachusetts attackman Jim Connolly (North Andover, Mass.). Connolly was the 2009 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and scored 90 goals in 47 career games at UMass.
The Cannons selected another Duxbury, Mass., product in the fourth round, choosing Georgetown University midfielder Chris Nixon. Nixon had 43 ground balls during his senior season and scored three goals.
Also in the fourth round, Boston selected Yale midfielder Nick Tsouris (Stony Brook, N.Y.). Tsouris was a second team All-Ivy and All-New England choice in 2010. He had three assists and collected 29 ground balls in 2010.
Boston’s fifth round selection was University of Virginia defenseman Ryan Nizolek (Madison, Conn.). Nizolek played in 15 games, collecting 31 ground balls in 2010.
The Cannons selected Harvard midfielder Jason Duboe (Long Grove, Ill.) in the sixth round. Duboe scored 11 goals for the Crimson in 2010.
Another Duxbury, Mass., standout was selected in the seventh round by the Cannons, as attackman Kevin Gould from Bentley was the choice. Gould led Bentley in 2010 with 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points.
In the eighth round the Cannons selected Notre Dame midfielder Grant Krebs (Annapolis, Md). Krebs had 24 goals and four assists for the Fighting Irish in 2010.
