NE teams qualify for NCAA tourneys

Connecticut College has earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Division 3 men's lacrosse tournament.

Several New England college lacrosse teams learned their NCAA tournament fates on Sunday, as a total of 17 teams from the region will participate in men’s and women’s Division 1, 2 and 3 tournaments.

►In the Division 1 women’s tournament Boston University will travel to face No. 8 Penn in the opening round on Saturday at 1 p.m.

This will be the third time in the past four seasons that BU (11-8) has faced Penn (14-3) in the NCAA tournament. BU will be making its sixth straight NCAA tournament appearance.

►In the Division 2 women’s tournament Stonehill (13-3) will travel to face second-seeded Adelphi (16-1) the defending Division 2 national champion. Game time is 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 16.

Stonehill was defeated by fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Adelphi during the regular season on March 20, 16-9.

►In the Division 3 women’s tournament eight New England teams have earned berths and will all see action in the first round on Wednesday, May 12.

New England teams qualifying for the Division 3 women’s tournament include Norwich (9-6), Colby (13-4), University of Southern Maine (11-9), Endicott (16-4), Williams (12-6), Babson (14-3), Trinity (13-3) and Bridgewater State (15-4).

First-round games on Wednesday include the following: Norwich at SUNY Cortland (16-2); Southern Maine at Colby; Endicott at Claremont-M-S (14-2); Babson at Williams; and Bridgewater State at Trinity.

►In the Division 3 men’s tournament seven New England teams have qualified. The opening round is Wednesday, May 12, with the second round scheduled for Saturday, May 15.

New England teams that have qualified for the men’s Division 3 tournament include Keene State (12-5), Castleton State (13-5), Connecticut College (14-2), Middlebury (11-5), Tufts (16-1), Endicott (13-7) and Springfield (12-5).

First-round games include the following matchups: Castleton State at Keene State; Goucher (13-3) at Middlebury; Endicott at Montclair State (15-3); and Widener (10-9) at Springfield (12-5).

Connecticut College and Tufts have earned first-round byes. Connecticut College will face Rochester Institute of Technology in the second round on May 15, while Tufts will face the winner of Endicott and Montclair State.
