University of North Carolina junior attackman Billy Bitter (Stowe, Vt.) has been named 2010 ACC Player of the Year.
Bitter becomes the first North Carolina ACC Player of the Year since 1996.
Bitter was named All-ACC for the second year in a row on Thursday.
Carolina's top offensive threat, who has been regularly double- and triple-teamed all year, Bitter leads the Tar Heels in points with 39 and in assists with 20 to go along with his 19 goals, just one goal behind the team lead in that category.
He also has 31 ground balls and six caused turnovers. He has been named ACC Player of the Week twice this year.
A Tewaaraton Award nominee, Bitter has tallied 18 multi-goal games in his career, including six this season, 20 multi-assist games (seven in 2010) and 31 multi-point games (10 in 2010) over his three-year career.
Bitter was held scoreless by Virginia on Friday in North Carolina’s 13-5 ACC semifinal loss.
