The Boston Blazers improved to 8-7 in National Lacrosse League action on Friday night with a 9-7 win over the Colorado Mammoth at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The win keeps Boston’s playoff hopes alive as the Blazers can clinch a postseason berth with a win next week at Buffalo or a Rochester loss against Washington.
With the loss, Colorado was eliminated from playoff contention.
The Blazers’ Dan Dawson scored the game-winning goal with 2:16 remaining in the contest.
Boston’s Anthony Cosmo stopped the first 13 shots he faced and didn’t allow a goal until 6:26 into the second quarter.
Cosmo was matched by Colorado’s Chris Lewis, who shut down the Blazers early as Boston held a slim 3-1 lead at the half.
The Blazers led by as many as four goals in the third quarter before Colorado rallied to tie the score at 6-6 in the fourth.
Boston was forced to play without Cosmo in the final quarter as he received a game misconduct for using illegal equipment.
After the teams traded goals to make it 7-7, Dawson scored his game-winning goal and John Harnett added an insurance marker for the 9-7 final.
Cosmo made 30 saves in goal for the Blazers, while his replacement, Nick Rose, stopped 15 shots.
Lewis had 37 saves for Colorado.
Dawson had five goals and three assists to lead the Blazers, with Daryl Veltman, Mat Giles, Jamie Rooney and Harnett adding single tallies.
Jed Prossner and Jamie Shewchuk scored two goals apiece for Colorado.
The Blazers will wrap up their regular season schedule on April 24 with a 7:30 p.m. game at Buffalo.
