Blazers rush past Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta — Captain Dan Dawson scored five goals and added two assists as the Blazers routed the Edmonton Rush, 12-5, Saturday night to climb to 6-5 on the season and into a tie for second place in the National Lacrosse League's Eastern Division.
Boston started the scoring early as Daryl Veltman knocked one in during a power play just 50 seconds into the game off an assist from newly acquired forward Mat Giles.
Dawson and Gary Bining traded goals for Boston's next four, including an athletic diving shot by Bining off a feed from Veltman. At the half, Boston led, 7-2, with Andy Secore scoring both of Edmonton's goals.
The Blazers continued to dominate throughout the second half, getting two more goals apiece from Bining and Dawson and one by Brenden Thenhaus. Edmonton replaced goaltender Matt Disher with Brandon Atherton midway through the third quarter.
Secore led the Rush with four of their five goals while Bining recorded four goals and an assist for the Blazers. Giles supported the Blazers offense in his Boston debut with four assists.
Anthony Cosmo stopped 35 shots for Boston and was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
The Blazers travel to Philadelphia next weekend to take on the Wings before returning home to face Orlando on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the TD Garden.
