Nate Evans of the Cannons attended the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s 11th Annual Muscle Team event on Tuesday night at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston. MDA’s Muscle Team is a high profile sports dinner where professional athletes and celebrities join together to put their muscle behind the search to find treatments and cures for 43 types of neuromuscular disease, including ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Evans was one of 24 professional athletes, two beauty queens, and two dance teams who helped support the cause. Each athlete and celebrity was paired up with an MDA Buddy, a local child living with muscular dystrophy. Evans was paired up with siblings Ruth and Andrew Baker of Wilmington, Mass.
Ruth is 10 years old and wants to be an MDA doctor or research scientist when she grows up. She recently wrote a book with her father that is being published. Andrew is 13 and is looking forward to his summer swim team and MDA Summer camp. When asked who he hero is, Andrew said “My Dad because he has (Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, like me) and is a great example for me and my sister for how to live with CMT.''
"It was an honor to be part of the MDA’s Muscle Team,” said Evans. “Spending time with Ruthie and Andrew, two great young kids, and their parents for the evening while helping raise money for the MDA was an honor for me.”
The evening included a VIP Meet & Greet with all the athletes and celebrities for the MDA Buddies and a silent auction followed by a dinner and live auction fundraiser for the MDA Boston’s Summer Camp Program. Last year more than 250 people attended, helping raise over $185,000 to support the noteworthy and award winning research and clinical programs and health care services of MDA in the Greater Boston area.
